The Laboratory

The LMEF* belongs to the Department of Forests Science and Wood (DCFM*) of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES*) located in the city of Jeronimo Monteiro, south of Espírito Santo.

The LMEF has four climate-controlled greenhouses and three growth chambers (e.g., fitotron) that allow for the simulation of diverse climate conditions to study the soil-plant-atmosphere system. With the existing laboratories of meteorological, plant ecophysiology, and plant growth analysis as well as the existing equipment, it is possible to perform studies regarding topics like the characterization of microclimates, the growth and ecophysiological responses of forests species under controlled conditions.

Currently, there are multiple studies with a focus on climate change impacts on the growth and development of native forest species with commercial interests in Brazilian and exotic biomes.

At the LMEL, there are students from the Graduate Program in Forest Sciences (PPGCFL*) from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) as well as Scientific Initiation Fellows from Forests Engineering.
